No, I am not kidding. A few minutes ago, I checked Twitter - and saw a link from one of my favorite writers, progressive Tommy Christopher of AOL’s Politics Daily. Tommy is without a doubt one of the nicest, brightest, and most genuine guys around the political journalism beat. He loves women. He calls a spade a spade and is intellectually honest when he writes.
After clicking through to So Right it’s Wrong, my inner editor went ballistic. (Because the rest of me felt total revulsion) He isn’t a good writer. There is no witty reparte. Just a laundry list of gorgeous, conservative women who would never be attracted to this bottom feeder – not as a friend, not as a lover, and certainly not as a mate.
Here’s the setup, from Guy Cimbalo:
Obama promised us the dream of post-partisanship-a cuckoo land where party affiliation and factional animosity were forgotten. Turn on cable news or open any newspaper, however, and you’ll quickly discover that the dream has yet to materialize. But there is a way to reach across the aisle without letting principles fall by the wayside. We speak, naturally, of the hate f***. We may despise everything these women represent, but goddammit they’re hot. Let the healing begin.
Recently, I wrote Beautiful, Successful and Hated. Little did I know that Obama’s hope-n-changey fans would resort to rape fantasies. I have never been a big fan of Hugh Hefner, nor Playboy but – this episode with Guy Cimbalo, well… it just defies description. He cloaks his inner rapist by using the endearing term “hate F#%k” — as if that somehow qualifies his vicious S&M fantasy satire.
UPDATE: And now the article has disappeared from the website. Gee, I wonder why. For the record, I am not sure what is most offensive – the article, or the “error page” that replaced it.
UPDATE2: Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey weighs in HERE
UPDATE3: Jezebel has the highlights of Cimbalo’s sick writing HERE
UPDATE4: Politico puts the list up, AS IS, miinus the vulgarity, without noting the clear misogyny or the fact that #tcot Twitterati are going ballistic over Cimbalo’s embodiment of the Democratic ideal
UPDATE5: Salon stays classy with Screwing Michelle Malkin (you can’t make this stuff up)
UPDATE6: Per Tommy Christopher – Politico has taken down article referenced in Update4 -
While a few people left comments pointing this out, it wasn’t until another wave of re-tweets suggesting that folks call this out that the count went from 28 comments, to 96. Michelle Malkin also called Politico out. Politico has now taken down the list, with the following non-apology apology:
The Playboy article linked to on this blog listed 10 conservative women “they love to hate” adding their reasons why. The blog included the link but only used the names of the women listed. But the Playboy article also included an offensive section that was not included in the blog, but has caused outrage in some readers who believe the blog agrees with all of Playboy stances. This is not true. So the blog has now taken down the link and greatly apologies. No ill will was meant.
While Politico deserves credit for responding to readers’ concerns, their apology creates a classic straw man. Nobody suggested that “the blog agrees with all of Playboy stances,” but rather that Schroeder definitely whitewashed the offensive content of the list she published, which indicated either tacit agreement, or something else.
They also fail to mention that the list was so vile, it was taken down by Playboy. Lest anyone think, by the way, that Playboy’s editors just missed it the first time around, note that they sent emails to conservative blogs promoting it!
As someone who writes 120 articles a month, I recognize the possibility that this was innocent, that Schroeder said “Oo! A list!” and just culled together the names, without reading the blurbs. We’ve all been caught taking a shortcut here or there. If that’s the case, they should say so, and actually apologize, instead of acting like people who are offended by violent sexual fantasies about unwilling subjects are just reactionary boobs.
I contacted Anne Schroeder for her side of the story, but I haven’t heard back yet.

There is nothing sexy about a man writing about “hate f**k” on a Playboy website. Writing about who is hated has nothing to do with rape fantasies, so why do these guys write things about women like this: because the men really don’t like women. Men who talk about hating women and raping them at the same time aren’t lovable guys who are simply confused–they’re the crazies for whom the death penalty was designed. Even if someone hates a particular person, writing about “hate fucking” doesn’t usually enter the conversation. Liberal or democracy based men don’t talk about hate fucking either, so perhaps he has ties with Afghanistan (the new rape law allowing men to rape their wives) political values regarding the ownership of women. Obviously hating and loving for some really sick people is only defined by gender.
“Hatef***” isn’t a euphemism for rape. It’s having sex with someone you dislike but are nevertheless attracted to. It’s the idea that sometimes you may find someone’s ideas repulsive but his/her body and appearance irresistible. This explains my love for Tucker Carlson, for example.
Again, it’s not rape. It’s consensual sex. The term is pretty common. Your headline is incorrect. I understand how you could make the mistake, but this guy isn’t advocating rape.
Can we get together Sara – I have this hate ying / yang 4 u !!
Consensual? So Guy the Pond Scum Hack has some kind of consensual agreement with Michelle Malkin to have wild, angry, painful, degrading sex? Is she aware of this *cough* consensual arrangement with Mr. Pond Scum?
Sorry, your attempt to condone this piece of garbage “hate-rape” list doesn’t wash. This perv liberal writer used the term “hate-f**k” to scoot under the radar because rape is illegal and it probably would not have been published. Saying he’s not advocating “rape” because he substituted an equally vile substitute term is naive and disingenuous. Rape is not about sex, it’s about power. And Guy obviously picked the 10 most high-profile conservative women he could think of to elevate his own sense of power by demeaning them and stripping them of their power. Loathsome and disgusting.
The most recent comment leaves the question of the second party’s consent to the imagination. His comments aren’t likely to be indicative of a plan to rape each specific individual, but rather an appallingly poor choice of words that has become newsworthy. Let him take the drubbing and move on.
Well, folks… I would never pretend to be an expert on the appropriate euphemism for “hate f$#k.”
Since my Left-leaning friends are so “hip,” then let me offer my congratulations to you for being keyed into sexual depravity.
1. I read the article written by Cimbalo before it was taken down by Playboy.
2. None of those women were likely to consent to being “hate f$#ked” – and yet he persisted.
3. Translation: if a woman does not giver her consent – the act is, by definition, RAPE.
4. It is not satire. Nor comic. It is a degradation of women, pure and simple.
5. Ask a rape victim her opinion. I have. She agreed with me.
6. No woman “deserves” to be “hate f$#ked” / raped. Ever.
7. None of these women “asked” for it. And of Mr. Cimbalo, I am sure no real woman ever will.
—Lizzy
Being a true man and not a playa, gangsta or pimp I can honestly say I couldn’t, wouldn’t and shouldn’t ever sleep with a women I hate. I could see a grudge f#$k with an ex but that is it. If you f@#k someone you hate you are a sick little turd that does not deserve to breath our air.
I wonder if sarabenincasa would have the same exact attitude if it were a Conservative writer who wanted to hate**** liberal women.
Might there be a double standard here?
Gee, ya think? spinspinspin, sarabenincasa.
Ahhh… so in your world, Obama is somehow responsible for a raunchy Playboy editorial. Interesting.
By the way, “hate f***” is NOT the same as rape. Consent is not the issue in that term. Get off your perch, get out, and get educated on your topics or leave them be. Unless ranting naively makes you happy, and in that case, carry on.
I say this to conservative women: CARRY A GUN.
USE IT ON ANY LEFTIST MALE WHO APPROACHES YOU, BECAUSE IN ALL PROBABILITY HE INTENDS TO RAPE YOU.
Oh, man. What’s that rule, where something fails as satire because it can’t be distinguished from what people really say/think? Either way, this comment made me laugh until I cried.
Why is sex viewed in such a controlling dominating way? What happened to participating because you LIKED the person? How can any real man fantasize forcing any woman? Oh that would not be a real man now would it.
Randall,
Obama isn’t directly responsible. Not at all. I am just noting that, like the rest of us, you are judged by the company you keep.
And Cimbalo is right on his page. It’s a shame.
Because real men never need resort to such vitriol and vulgarity.
For a real Liberal man, please click through to Tommy Christopher’s site – Cimbalo won’t ever be HALF the writer – or MAN – that he is.
—Lizzy
I don’t know how you were able to tie Obama to this drivel, but maybe you should learn to keep your politics in check when talking about a controversial and completely unrelated issue. I mean, damn…how embarrassing for you.
wow..that is horribly disgusting. But then again, should I expect better from Playboy magazine?
Hasn’t anyone seen Lilith and Frasier? Could they stand the sight of each other besides getting it on?

It seems fair, after all Bush, Cheney and his republican fascists hate-fucked all of America for 8 years. Oh yes, and Rumsfield took his turn with Iraq. Yeah.
What a sick and twisted way of looking at this issue. It is posterior orifices like you that will cause the collapse of this country!
r u really Jewish ? Do u follow anything that happening in the world regarding BHO hateF**ing Isreal.
The article is disgusting, the language and the magazine in which it appears are offensive, and Cimbalo is a witless jackass.
That being said, though I’m less “keyed into sexual depravity” than the average college student or watcher of reality television, even I recognize the term–nasty and offensive though it is–as something different than rape. And so, I suspect, do James Carville and Mary Matalin.
There are some things, that are really to vile to be used even in the form of parody. Rape or anything similar would be one of those things. I would also hope a political article, even if meant for humor, even on playboy, which use to house good writing, would not resort to such cheap shock tactics. Also even though these are public figures, they have friends and families, and certainly don’t deserve to be “hate f****ed” even in the most hypothetical scenario. I am a conservative, and would never dream of writing, saying, consider writing or saying that about the most liberal female politician or commentator. If you ask me an apology should be issued , rather than them pretending that this article never was plastered on the web for all to see.
You know…Jews in Boots sort of nails it…without morals, you can pretty much do anything.
The newly-in-charge-left view the last 8-years as immoral because there actually were morals. So now its only fair that their own brand of immorality prevail. And their immorality is really just that. Cimbalo is simply witless enough to say so.

If I call Cimbalo a moron, am I insulting all the morons out there?
And, burstmode… there were morals during the past 8 years? Maybe you ought to do that chained-in-a-cage with Cimbalo. 1st one out gets to be crowned moron du jour.
how nice, classy girl.
Playboy and foul language are general turn-offs (mostly). But I have a number of male friends (and politics is irrelevant) who have described this phenomenon to me – the idea that you can loathe someone, and yet be strangely attracted to them. “Hate f$&#” is a foul term, but it is fitting – this isn’t someone you would want to be in a relationship with, per se, just someone you want to have sex with. It’s natural. See comment above about Lilith and Frasier. I can think of several guys in my life that I’ve hated, but yet, with the lights really low (and a lot of alcohol in me)….
Funny enough, if it had been a woman to write about conservative men she’d like to “hate $%^#”, this conversation wouldn’t even be happening.
And no, it is not rape (for that matter, rape fantasies are not rape either). I am tired of my fellow women abusing the term “rape”. You denigrate the term and the people who have suffered from it. Stop it. I suspect sometimes that we’d all be a bit better off with more therapy regarding our sexual hangups.
Is this site an idiot magnet?
Jews in Boots: So you didn’t like Bush and that makes rape OK? You are a poster child for school vouchers. The nation is deeply in debt. We cannot afford any more public school morons like yourself.
That said, I am grateful. You put to rest once and for all the stereotype that all Jews are smart.
Deepali: On what planet do you reside? How about I follow what passes for your logic?
How about I tell you I’d like to hate **** anyone who regards a well documented murderer like Daniel Ortega as a hero? How about I tell you that I’d like to hate **** any bitch (homage to Cimbalo) I can get drunk enough?
Pretty funny stuff, don’t you think?
Like you, I don’t have a whole lot of sexual hangups.
sauer kraut: You aren’t happy with the morals of the last 8 years? That makes rape OK? Or is it only conservative women that are fair game? Are conservative black women fair game for a hate ****? Are Muslim women who are against abortion and gay rights fair game for a good hate ****ing as well? Of course, we can’t leave out the Jews- do they have to be conservative or will any Jew do?

“which indicated either tacit agreement or something else”
What a phenomenally useless statement!
Isn’t it more likely that, in editing out the offensive sections the person republishing an article indicates tacit DISagreement?
And as for something else, well, ending a sentence like that is something else.
Lizzy,
I understand that we live in a free speech country, so this Playboy writer has the right to express anything, as disturbing as it may be.
Do you think it was appropriate what he got published?
~ Gloria
It seems fair, after all Bush, Cheney and his republican fascists hate-fucked all of America for 8 years.
You should really try to learn what some of those words mean. If Bush, Cheney et al. really were fascists you wouldn’t be writing that now.
There are two reasons he used the word “fascist” in that context…
1. it’s accurate description of the direction the nation was heading under their administration
2. “fascist-ish” and “fascist-esque” aren’t words
No it isn’t you fucking moron. If this country were in any way fascist you’d be rat food by now. That being said, maybe it would have been a good thing if this country had been fascist…idiots like you wouldn’t be around to irritate me.
“it’s accurate description of the direction the nation was heading under their administration”
Huh? We have less fascism now, eight months later? And what’s changed? Do you even have a damn clue what the word means?
Is the Constitution suddenly being interpreted with an emphasis on greater Liberty now by some new Constitutionalist SCOTUS nominee? Has the Patriot Act been repealed? Are government nationalizations of entire industries trending down? What about government-business partnerships? Fewer government-sponsored enterprises? Are Obama’s community-organizing brown-shirts just a smaller version of one of Bush’s many brown-shirt organizations that I didn’t know about? Are we seeing, now, a turning away from the push to end private gun-ownership? Is irrational worship of our Dear Leader waning? (The polls are down, but the worship continues) Are we winding down the war? Are we about to build fewer detention camps for foreign illegal combatants, or more? (What happened to none?)
Fascism isn’t synonymous with “conservative”, though the neo-cons did about as much as they could get away with to make it synonymous with Republican. However, Fascism, properly understood, is socialistic and statist. Any freedom or free-enterprise that exists within it is merely an illusion, an accident of your free-will co-inciding with the will of the state. China has transformed into the quintessential fascist state, and we have just about half a step to go to meet up with them from the other direction.
And with that, lest I be ‘flagged’, let me finish with the soon to be obligatory “Heil, Obama!”

Mr. Cimbalo’s article is filthy and wrong. It’s disgusting that anyone would say they want to rape someone else, whether it’s said specifically or implied through an ephemism. The attitude behind such statements dismisses the horror of sex crimes, sexual slavery and the degredation of women.

How does one guy writing a distasteful article lead to you coming up with this sentence?
We all in internet/twitter land know and despise the PB article (aside: even moi who has been known to accept even laugh art really gross jokes) but this is a long way away from the santa claus stuck in the fireplace cartoon (or was that The New Yorker – 30 years ago) That was shocking back then !
The point is that I mentioned this too several people (fairly hip & current) and they had no clue to what I was referring! So that’s sorta good, right? Well, what isn’t right, is that most people, especially mid America could never think that ANYONE would or could think like this in a national pub – even PB ! But this article is indicative of the liberal mindset from the coasts & Chi. They’re are so out of tune not only with middle class mores but also with common sense.
I don’t even know where you folks generally fall on the political spectrum, but I used to be a democratic party apparatchik ;=} and now have become a rabid rt wing whatever – and I haven’t changed a bit , so WTFDIK !
But the next time there is some tsk tsk moralizing by liberals, don;t forget that this is the basis for their persecption.

Just imagine the justified ‘Liberal’ outrage if say, ‘Hustler’ Magazine ran a disgusting parody where Rush, Hannity, Beck, Savage and Ann Coulter gang-raped and tickle-tortured Katie Couric, and then Nancy Pelosi.
Imagine. The outrage would last for months in the MSM. There would be calls for firings and boycotts. NOW would be apoplectic. Poor little outraged, hypocritical Libs.

What is so bonkers about tying a self-identified leftist guy, who opens his smirking little rape-fantasy of conservative women with an extensive quote from Barack Obama, to the “entire Liberal Left” as you wrote? Are you suggesting that the little pervert is looking for approval from the right wing, hmm? Please. Not only is your assertion logically weak, it is childishly silly.
Who says Cimbalo is looking for approval from anyone? So assume so is childishly silly.

Never said I approved of hate fu**king women, fungus. But the analogy is politically apropos to the behavior of dickless cheney and his ragtag group of cluster f***s.
I am sick and tired of hearing how the past 8 years was so bad.
I am sick of your blame game. Blame Bush…blame Bush…blame Bush….blah blah blah. Typical liberals are full of excuses. All liberals do, is blame others for their own personal failures. With liberals, it’s ALWAYS someone else’s fault. Liberals never accept responsibility.
STOP blaming Bush for your sad, pathetic, miserable, ungrateful, worthless…lives.
Bush did prevent you from going back to school. Bush did not stop your from getting a better job making more money. Bush did not get you pregnant. Bush is not the reason for your divorced. Bush did not prevent your from purchasing a home. Bush did not prevent your from buying a cars. And, Bush never stopped anyone from opening their own business. You had 8 years to todo what every you wanted.
If you think the past 8 years was bad, than YOU wasted 8 years of your life. How does that make you feel, knowing you wasted 8 years? I am sure blaming Bush makes you feel so much better. Face it, It’s your fault, you blew it, take responsibility and get over it. You had no initiative.
In my little world, things were perfect!! Sure there were some lows, but for the most part everything was absolutely perfect! I was very blessed to have lived in the past 8 years.
EVERYONE is giving the same opportunity as the next person standing next to you. There are a lot of doctors and lawyers who graduated within the past 8 years. You don’t hear them blaming Bush. They had initiative!!
If more of you believed in GOD and had FAITH in GOD, than better things would come. I see it everyday!!
Here is a hint. You want to bet the recession. Get a Skilled job.
QUOTE from someone else: If you want to blame Bush for the current crisis, it might make you feel good, reinforce your sense of how the world works, enable you to find a meeting of the minds the next time you engage your liberal friends over wine and quiche, but like so many things you believe and which make you feel good, it has no correspondence to reality.
Great use of tired phrases, Charles.
Pray tell, what is a “typical liberal”? Of course, you’ll have to define what a “liberal” is to start all that.
It’s pathetic that folks who self-identify themselves as “right” spend so much time demonizing and trying to control those who do not share that same exact self-identification.
As for blaming Bush… I have that right. 9/11 occurred on his watch. As did the $700 unsupervised billions for AIG and money lenders. He screwed up on boths ends. And the middle wasn’t much better. There. I wrote it. Mission Accomplished!
OK, I’m no fan of Bush.
But only complete jackasses ask you to define “typical liberal”. Everyone knows what that means. Everyone. If you object to the classification because you consider yourself to be a Classical Liberal, or a Libertarian, or the not so typical ‘consistent liberal’, then say that. Stop being an ass.
“It’s pathetic that folks who self-identify themselves as “right” spend so much time demonizing and trying to control those who do not share that same exact self-identification.”
O. M. G. Read much? There’s this new thing called the interweb or something. On there, there’s a bunch of ‘web loggers’ who identify with the left and the right. Many of those on the left fit the above description perfectly. Some would say ‘most’. It’s kind of a self-selected group. I don’t really know what the kettle to pot ratio is among this strange group of left/right web log writers. But I do know that KOS stands for: “Kettles of Sh*t”.
But, “911 occurred on his watch”? Duuhhwhat?
Yeah, and Pearl Harbor occurred on FDR’s watch. So? WWI? Vietnam? Waco? OK bombing? USS Cole? First Twin Towers bombing?
And here we have a president who has spent eight months doing what? Making sure another 911 can’t happen? If one happened tomorrow, how would Obama’s first eight months be different from GW’s? He wasn’t aware terrorists could sneak across our borders? He’s done something to guarantee they are sown up tight? He’s working closely with the CIA to make sure we’re on top of the threats? Or is he more worried about prosecuting Americans in the CIA who were explicitly promised they were on firm legal ground when they gave our detainees a stern interrogation? Obama has utterly alienated the entire CIA, including Pinetta. Is he actually more busy releasing terrorists back into the wild, apologizing to Muslims out of the side of his mouth that isn’t currently being used to proclaim that America will not apologize. Has he instead, astutely identified Constitution-loving Libertarians as the next great threat to The American Way, and directed Napolitano to keep an eye on them?
How about just a little bit of consistency out of a ‘typical’ liberal?
Oops, there I go asking for the effing impossible. I mean that is really what this particular subject is about. Any non-liberal would be tarred and feathered had they written the same about… umm… Garafalo? ack-ck… I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. umm… Pelosi? HC? Waters? Help me out, here… Ferraro? Boxer? Maddox?! Sotomayor?
OK, who am I kidding. No non-liberal COULD have written this article, I’ll grant you that. But, for rhetorical purposes, let’s just pretend it happened. And, for rhetorical purposes, assume he wasn’t a complete psychotic gone off his meds. (I believe many on the left and right give Olberman a pass for this very reason.) The publication of this would have touched off a firestorm. The hypocritical NOW would have been ‘outraged’. (Does NOW even still exist. I mean, between Clinton’s escapades, the trashing of every woman Bush selected to high positions, the inexcusable treatment of Sarah Palin, including articles EXACTLY LIKE CIMBALO’s about her, and this event, I haven’t heard from them in decades. I believe they had a mass suicide: they all drank Koolaid laced with mass-quantities of Inconsistency.) Liberal professors would be writing mass-signed letters calling for castration with a spoon, various professional-offendees would be chattering incessantly, Michael Moore would be admitted for Rhinotillexomania again, and don’t even get me started on the celebrities.
“$700 unsupervised billions for AIG…”
You do know this makes you look like a completely ignorant boob of Biden-like proportions, right?
OK, the Congress originates all bills and appropriates the money… This means the Democrat congress wrote the bill, they passed it, they could have retained oversight over it, and the most any President can do is veto it. Should Republicans have listened to about 70-80% of the entire US adult population and not voted for it? Should GW have vetoed it? Sure. I think so. Obama didn’t. He voted for it. He would have voted to overrule a veto. (And he had the gall to claim he ‘inherited’ a deficit from Bush, adding the TARP bill HE voted for into the deficit pot, meaning yes, he told yet another outright lie.) And for the last eight months, who was responsible for how this money was spent. At least half of it has been doled out under the Obama administration. We were promised transparency, and instead, we have unaccountability. No, the truth is the money was supervised. It was supervised right into the pockets in which the government wanted it. The current administration ‘could’ look into this, tell us what happened, even to the money that was spent under GW.
Don’t hold your breath counting on their ethics.
I find it weird that fantasies about sex with someone who would never consent is somehow related to rape. If that’s true then every person on here is guilty of fantasizing about rape.
Obviously, you did not click through to read the screen shots of the original article.
I refuse to become a “TWITTER”. (the latest fad for the emailing junkie that wants 15 minutes of fame).
Guy Cimbalo is a coward! Contact info is scarce.
What I would say to Guy is that I understand why he would list ten Conservative women rather than ten Liberals. Have you noticed the Liberal women are not attractive. So, Guy, I guess your mother and sister are Liberal broads also.
Right, I’ve looked at the screenshots and you’re correct. The writing is pathetic, boring and not even nearly funny. That said, your headline is sensationalist, and claiming this is some sort of rape fantasy is just lazy and disingenuous.
There are a number of reasons you could have come up with to condemn this article but screaming ‘rapist’ reeks of the type of rhetoric rolled out when people know they should be outraged but aren’t entirely sure why, and aren’t too interested in getting to the core problem/constructing an insightful post.
When this jackass says ‘hate f$!k’ it’s pretty obvious what he means, and that is the act of having sex with someone you don’t like. It doesn’t mean they don’t like you, don’t want to have sex with you or that the sex has to be vicious or sadistic. It’s not exactly uncommon for people to have sex with others who’s beliefs, values and opinions they disagree with/hate. (I don’t see the point personally but it does happen).
Instead of using a convoluted and shaky argument that this is a rape fantasy you could have dealt with the real problem here, but it seems you were happy to use your ready-to-go anti-rape spiel.
Sean,
are you sating that rape is not vicious? or sadistic?
This was not a “ready to go” anti-rape spiel. Are you saying you have a “pro-rape spiel in mind?
Of course not. Just because you don’t like or disagree with my articulation does not mean I am wrong. The women named in this article will forever have Cimbalo’s misogynistic screed attached to their names. They have husbands, boyfriends and other loved ones who will see this. Their children will see it.
Call it “cyber rape” or “virtual rape” or whatever you prefer… I suggest you do some research regarding rape, the stats, the psychology, and the behavior of rapists. Unless you have walked a mile in the shoes of a rape victim, kindly keep your politics out of it.

I’m completely with sarabenincasa. I bet it’s because we’re in the same age range, as we both know that ‘hate f***’, while perhaps vile, does not mean rape. it means nothing remotely close to the vicinity of rape.
those of you who are substituting the words are really showing your age. admittedly, it’s a bit harsh, but it’s a common term that i know every person under 30 would define EXACTLY as sarabenincasa did.
I will be 37 in a few weeks. Understanding the term “Hate F**K” is not about age. It is about how we value ourselves. If, for instance, you think it is appropriate to detach morality, romance, fidelity, and marriage or committed partnerships from sex — then, I am sure you are not offended by the term hate f**k. If you don’t revere your body, your soul, and your ability to bring something pure to your mate…then you’ve chosen to be a receptacle. If that’s the path you’ve chosen – good for you. Every city needs it’s landfill, and Cimbalo is just the garbage man.
On the other hand, I believe that sexual intimacy is a union between two consenting adults. Given the intensity that is inherent in a real relationship, and the maturity necessary to maintain it… I would never bring hate into my bed. Nor would any woman who respects herself, and her body.
Ask a rape victim what her opinion is of this term. Ask a woman brutalized by a man during rape if she thought he hated her or not. Just ask. Every rape victim was hate fucked. Plain and simple.
Lizzy,
Let me wish you an early happy birthday.
I think it’s got a lot to do with age. My generation coined the phrase and I understand it’s meaning. By completely switching the word ‘f***’ to rape, you demonstrate your confusion. It seems to be a lightening bolt to you, but it’s something I’ve heard for years. In part, you’re simply in shock. And that’s okay, I’ll try to hold your hand through this.
Firsts thing first: it’s a juvenile phrase. It’s fratty and a bit cruel.
Secondly, the phrase only applies to highly fictional situations. Let me use another phrase you’re probably not familiar with to demonstrate. When young males are casually speaking to friends about a famous model or actress they’d like to have sexual relations with, it’s common to overhear them saying ‘I’d f*** the sh*t out of her.” Needless to say, it’s also vulgar, but it by no means refers to anal sex. And it doesn’t mean aggressive sex, either. The heathens are trying to quantify their desire, but do not have the intelligence to do it well. Let’s say the woman is Angelina Jolie. I’m speculating, but Ms. Jolie is probably high on the average male’s list of attractive women. The irony of the young male saying he’d ‘f*** the sh*t out of’ her is that said male will never, EVER be in the same room with Ms. Jolie. It’s a hypothetical. It’s his own wet dream. As crazy as it sounds, the young guy thinks it’s complimentary. He holds her on high.
Perhaps you’re right though. Maybe it’s not about age. Although I’m pretty sure Bristol Palin understands the term. She’s of my generation and is obviously able to detach morality, romance, fidelity, and marriage or committed partnerships from sex.
In terms of asking a rape victim their thoughts, I think that’s a bit silly. You’re asking me to enlist the most biased group to comment. That’s like me asking you to ask an African-American their views on slavery.
I completely agree with your last point, but it’s flawed. Saying that every rape is a hate fuck is true, but not every hate fuck is rape, just like every tomato is a fruit, but not every fruit is a tomato.
I think part of the difference is this guy is supposed to be a political writer, not some half drunk frat boy. I am 20, none of my friends talk that way, and we are not ultra political correct or something like that. I have heard people speak and that manner, but I am not sure it is the norm, and if it is, it is still nor acceptable.
Also while I am not a prude about sexuality, but to me hate and f**** really do not go together in concept. I mean in the least both parties are supposed to have enjoyed the experience, if not there is something wrong. The ideal being a connection, the minimum physical pleasure.
Either way, I do believe that a major print publication should be held to higher standards than low brow colliqualisms. Even if it is Playboy. In your defense I am not the most pop-culture aware person, and I am not the most up to date on slang. Anyway just adding another Gen Y perspective.
If you have sex with someone you hate it is most likely rape. Say grugde f@#k if you are trying to say sex with someone you don’t agree with hate and sex should never be together. That phrase is just one of many that make the younger generations look very ignorant. I know there are a lot of great youngsters out there but the lack of communication skills and the uses of words like; pimps, bitches, ho’s and so on make the average person over forty look down upon you worse than the older people looked down on me for long hair and a pierced ear. I could at least maintain intelligent conversations.

This only proves what I’ve come to KNOW – I could sound more fair and write “what I’ve come to believe” – but I’d be lying; the only racists and women haters I’ve met in person seem to come from the left. For some reason they think they have some sort of cloak of goodness which lets them spew the most hateful crap – as if because they gave a buck to the homeless guy down the street they then have (like carbon offsets) moral offsets.
Sick stuff!

Why would you hate someone for their political views alone? I’m a Republican and I’m shocked that this man would hate, let alone “hatefuck”, conservatives purely because he’s liberal. That may be one of the most ignorant thing s Ive ever heard. Also if he really does hate them, why would he want to have sex with them still? That’s ridiculously shallow.
