Hats off to my friend Scott Schmidt over at BoifromTroy, whilst reading a biography on Harvey Milk, discovered what I am declaring as the quote of the day on MediaLizzy.com – this quote, coincidently, comes from our own U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Milk is discussing the issue of hope during his swearing in:
A true function of politics is not just to pass laws, but to give people hope,” Milk said. “There have been too many disappointments lately. the real abyss that lies not too far ahead is that day when a disappointed people lose their hope forever. When that happens, everything we cherish will be lost.”
San Francisco Board of Supervisors President (and now CA U.S. Senator) Dianne Feinstein retorted with the following:
Hope is fine, but you can’t live on hope.”
